Kristy "Illyart" aka "Illusioner" Gilbert - theillusioner.com Illy (rhymes with silly) was born Kristy Gilbert some few years ago. Through high school she thought she was a writer. An avid fav on science fiction in general and action TV shows and movies in particular, some of her favorites include the A-Team (TV show and recent movie), GI Joe (animated and live action), Battlestar Galactica (don't make her pick but don't mention 1984), Inception and of course Firefly and Serenity. She discovered the magic of Digital Art in July of 2004. A good friend took the time to explain the basics of Poser to her and that was the start. Illy, the artist who claims she cannot draw, never looked back. Although writing is still very important to her, it is the 3D artwork that can loose her for hours at a time whether it is a fantasy theme or something more sci-fi or something else that inspires her. Eager to unlock the artist in others, she is more than willing to share what she knows. Current projects include new pieces in the works for SheVaCon 2012 and a science fiction/fantasy graphic novel. There is some consideration being given for a gaming system setting as well. |

Rich Hilliard - www.richhilliard.com Richard Hilliard was born in rural Virginia in the 1960’s, and spent his youth dreaming of going to New York City to study art. After a nearly 20 year career in the NY Metro area, he and his wife returned to VA in 1999, and began teaching at James Madison University, where he continues to this day. Growing up during the time of the Apollo Moon missions, Rich has a great interest in sharing these adventures with young people. This has inspired him to pursue publishing and school visits as a way of bringing history alive for a new generation of space explorers. His first illustrated book for children, the award-winning "Neil, Buzz, and Mike Go to the Moon," has been so well received that a second book, "Godspeed, John Glenn," was released in late 2006, followed by "Ham, the Astrochimp" in 2007 and "Lucky 13: Survival in Space" in 2008. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Rich was honored to be selected as the featured children’s author at the Smithsonian Institution’s annual Space Day in Washington DC, and was a featured author at the National Air and Space Museum for the 40th anniversary celebration of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. |

Brian McCulloch - www.mccullochart.com Brian McCulloch was born in Oklahoma in 1976, after high school there was a chance to persue an education in art or enter military service. Enlisting in the US Navy seemed like a practical choice but it was also a good artistic choice in the long term. After four years as an Avionics Technician a decision was needed as to either re enlist or enter the private sector, this was based on whichever came first, being promoted to E5 or finding a good paying job. He was hired by duPont Aerospace three hours before being promted to AT2. |

Matt Slay - spaciousinterior.deviantart.com What can be said about Matt that has not already been said with some measure of confusion? A fine arts practitioner trapped in a commercial arts cycle. Matt grew up with comics during what was one of the most transitional periods in comic book history: Mid ‘80s through the early ‘90s. During this time, he freely admits, he loved the best of the best and the worst of the worst the comic book medium had to offer. Seeing his favorite heroes and villains brought to more thoroughly rendered life, nothing less would do. He set out to find if that skill was hiding somewhere inside and it would take a decade or more to find it. After completing both the Art Foundation and Commercial Art programs at VCU, he was accepted into the Joe Kubert School in 1999, though this venture was short lived.
Matt immediately enrolled at Radford University’s School of the Visual Arts to study both Painting for Commercial Arts as well as Art History. Studying under watercolor legend Z.L. Feng, Matt buried himself in the works and methods of Joe Jusko, Nelson Faro DeCastro, David Mack, Jae Lee, N.C. Wyeth, Ray Lago, and Jose Villarrubia. In doing so, he finally discovered within himself the “fine arts” approach he had been searching for since the age of 12. Now, having completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and with watercolor paint as his weapon of choice, Matt hopes to prove, through comic imagery… and even trading cards of his own, what he perceives to be the ultimate truth of the medium:

In August of 2010 Travis published "Beware The Boon" a collection of the first 200 Hainted Holler strips. Travis currently lives in Bassett,Va with his wife and 2 cats

Jessica C. White - heroesandcriminalspress.com I’m a printmaker, bookbinder, papermaker, and zinester. I create images with children and animals that attempt to make sense of uncertainties in our world today, similar to the way animals were used in folktales and ancient mythologies. Much of my exploration revolves around good versus evil, right and wrong, justice, and wonder. I like mosses and ferns, staring out of windows, walking through the woods, ghosts, visiting old cemeteries, antique medicine bottles, and books with pictures. I dislike walking on things I can see through, bare walls, and skipping breakfast. I always check twice to be sure that the mail I put in the box really fell down the chute. I publish handcrafted books under the imprint Heroes & Criminals Press. You can see my work at Heroes & Criminals Press.com |

Elaine Corvidae - www.onecrow.net Elaine Corvidae has been telling stories about faeries, elves, and dragons since she was a small child. Her dark fantasy novels have won numerous awards, including multiple Eppie Awards and Dream Realm Awards for Best Fantasy Novel. When she isn’t wandering the worlds of her imagination, she lives in Harrisburg, NC, with her husband and several cats. |

Betty Cross - www.betty-cross-author.net Betty Cross has published a sci-fi novel called "Discarded Faces." It is now available both as a paperback on Amazon.com and as an ebook from Double Dragon Ebooks. It’s a dystopia with a happy ending. Her second novel is a fantasy book named "Mistress of the Topaz." She has signed a contract with Double Dragon for this one also. It should be available for sale by early 2012. As a child, Betty was fascinated by the early satellite launches – Sputnik, Discovery, Vanguard, and so on. As a teenager she enjoyed watching the original Star Trek series on NBC on Thursday nights. This and reading Orwell’s "1984" engendered in her an ambition to write science fiction. Discovering "The Lord of the Rings" at age 17 extended the range of her vision to fantasy also. However, finishing college and earning a living came first. Her BA degree from Davidson College in Davidson, NC was in Renaissance and Reformation History, an excellent background for what was to come. She found her calling (in the mundane sense) in Information Technology, and worked with computers for more than three decades. In April 2010, she attained her lifelong dream by walking away from her daytime job and becoming a full-time writer of Science Fiction and Fantasy. She writes every day, and keeps a record of her daily word count on a spreadsheet. Some may remember Betty Cross from her former name as Steve Cross. However, Betty was never comfortable living as a male. She has been living full-time as a woman since June 2010. In this decision she has the support of her family, and of virtually everyone she knows in fandom. She has no regrets and will never go back. An earlier self-published version of "Discarded Faces" by Steve Cross has been withdrawn from sale. In her spare time, she likes to visit with her nephews and nieces, surf the Internet, celebrate Jewish religious holidays, and watch the big screen. She seldom watches television any more, except for favorite old movies. |

David Forbes - www.davidforbes.net David Forbes is the author of the epic fantasy series THE OSSERIAN SAGA, published by HarperCollins, which began with THE AMBER WIZARD in 2006, followed by sequels THE WORDS OF MAKING and THE COMMANDING STONE. The goal of the books was to write a fantasy series chronicling the rise of monotheism in a polytheistic world and how religious belief can both unite different social and ethnic groups, as well as be used as a weapon to conquer others. As with most early writing goals, this one didn’t survive much beyond the first draft, and the tattered remnants that remained were drastically changed from the original concepts. Which is maybe a little too much info about this particular sausage making, but Forbes is nothing if not scrupulously honest and direct about his writing, except of course where such scrupulousness might affect him adversely, and then all bets are off. However, the original goals did begin to peek back in to varied degrees in the second and third volumes, so all was not lost. The Saga also includes a large and varied cast of characters, some unique world building, and, of course, lots of fighting, magic, and an assortment of gargantuan action set pieces where lots of things are destroyed in spectacular ways in order to satisfy the author’s lifelong fascination with explosions, mayhem, and destruction. The third volume was published in the fall of 2009, after which Forbes switched from large scale fantasy to young adult and urban fantasy novels. Two YA novels are currently being shopped around by his agent. EVERWHEN is about a war between factions of angels arguing over God’s plan for the world and the fifteen-year-old boy caught in the crossfire because he has something both sides want. THE SAPPHIRE EYE concerns a teenage girl who gets caught in the machinations of an immortal empress out to enslave mankind. The teenager has to fend off attacks from demons and undead soldiers while keeping up her grades in high school and coming to terms with the discovery that the guy of her dreams is actually a witch. Forbes also just handed over to his agent his first urban fantasy novel, THE RUTHLESS DEAD, about a half-angel security consultant who becomes the target of a Dutch wizard and Greek vampire who plan to crack open an alternate dimension known as the Abyss and release unspeakable horrors not only upon this world but all of the Celestial realms as well, including the one we think of as Heaven. He maintains a website at www.davidforbes.net, where readers can find the usual excerpts of his work, as well as daily updates on topics that include writing, technology, film, entertainment, and anything else that catches his ADD-ish attention. |
